Alberta Cross: The Thief & The Heartbreaker

ALBERTA CROSS The Thief & The Heartbreaker (Ark)

BORN in the East End of London and based in New York, Alberta Cross are steeped in Americana but remain utterly contemporary, bringing influences such as the Allman Brothers and The Band into the 21st century. In this they are helped by frontman Terry Wolfers’ distinctively high vocal, which falls somewhere between Jeff Buckley and Chrissie Hynde. But don’t think this is a fragile album – songs such as the blues-based title track and Robbie Robertson nod Old Man Chicago have real musical muscle. Could be the next Kings Of Leon. PC
