Southside Johnny - Grapefruit Moon

(Evangeline)

HE was once reckoned to be a rival to Springsteen but these days Southside Johnny and his Asbury Dukes play sweaty venues like the Robin in Bilston to the fiercely loyal faithful.

This album, however, finds him fronting the La Bamba’s Big Band and adding brassy rock and soul punch to the Tom Waits songbook. The setlist ranges from the subtly soulful Yesterday Is Here to joyous band workouts Down Down Down and All The Time In The World. Waits loved it so much he duets on the wonderful Walk Away.
