Sharleen Spiteri - Melody

WHEN she first surfaced as the voice of Texas, we all fell in love with Sharleen Spiteri’s bluesy soul voice. But as the band waded further and further into the mainstream, she got lost in no man’s bland.

Happily, her solo debut finds her paying homage to the songbirds of the 60s with new songs nestling amid musical memorabilia. Hence Stop I Don’t Love You Anymore beams with Motown magic, I Wonder nods to Diana Ross, and the title track is an orchestral swoon worthy of Serge Gainsbourg. Finally she’s in a lone star state.
