Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals - Lifeline Tour Edition

(Virgin)

THE soulful Lifeline slipped into record stores largely unnoticed last Autumn, but Harper’s scene-stealing appearance in the Hyde Park deluge will renew interest, and this special edition adds a bonus live CD recorded in Seattle.

Alongside new versions of songs from the album, you’ll find fan favourites Whipping Boy and Welcome To The Cruel World, which are worth the price of admission alone.

Of the original Lifeline set, Stax soul-driven Heart Of Matters takes pride of place, although the powerful Needed You Tonight reveals Harper’s Redding R&B roots.
