Jakob Dylan - Seeing things

(Columbia)

JAKOB Dylan’s a brave man. While his wonderful Wallflowers are on hold, he’s gone solo – and that means he’s on a hiding to nothing. He’ll inevitably be compared unfavourably to his iconic father Bob, a songwriter perhaps without equal.

But the good news is that this isn’t a bad album at all. Produced by Rick Rubin, who’s worked the same stripped down sound he did with Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond, it’s a semi-plugged set of downbeat delight.

Something Good This Way Comes is feelgood folk-pop, Will It Grow has an easy charm and Everybody Pays As They Go all but rocks.
