Emmylou Harris - All I Intended To Be

(Nonesuch)

Emmylou Harris

AFTER a string of excellently edgy albums, 61 year-old Emmylou Harris returns to her roots, compiling a sublime singer-songwriter setlist that plays to her strengths.

Highlights are Mark Germino’s Broken Man’s Lament and Jack Wesley Routh’s Shores Of White Sand, both of which insist life goes on after heartbreak, and there are songs by Tracy Chapman and Patty Griffin.

Emmylou’s own Gold boasts a discreet Dolly Parton bluegrass harmony vocal, while Kate and Anna McGarrigle gorgeously guest on folky Sailing Round The Room and How Could She Sing The Wildwood Flower.
