Thea Gilmore - Liejacker

(Fruitcake)

"MIDLAND singer-songwriter Thea Gilmore is a survivor.

Having battled back from deep depression, a marriage on the rocks and record company wrangles, she's become a mum and deed convention by making the finest album of her career.

More folk-based than the harder Harpo's Ghost, sometimes harrowing lyrics are set to sublimely beautiful melodies, notably on Old Soul, a duet with Zutons frontman Dave McCabe. Erin McKeown guests on a delightful Dance In New York and Joan Baez, no less, sings back-up on The Lower Road.
