BRET McKenzie and Jermaine Clement introduce themselves as “New Zealand’s fourth most popular folk parody act” but that’s not half the story.
Already festival favourites, and with their own Grammy-winning TV series on BBC Four, they’re being hailed as the greatest pop comedy crossover since the Bonzos.
But although the debut album has its moments, it’s a patchy affair, raising more a wry grin than a belly laugh.
Best are Foux du Fafa, which reduces French jazz to a classroom cliche and Bowie, which breathlessly traces his career in three minutes.
