wAUSTRALIA (12) is only Baz Luhrmann’s fourth film in 16 years, so hopes were high for his first movie since Moulin Rouge. Sadly, he failed to produce something magical, although there are plenty of reasons to watch Australia, notably the stunning locations and two star leads with charisma. Nicole Kidman plays a haughty aristocrat who arrives at the family’s remote cattle station in 1939 to discover her husband dead. Thanks to drover Hugh Jackman, she rounds up the cattle, takes on baddie Bryan Brown and falls in love, with an Aboriginal boy and her ruggedly handsome drover.
