ABDUCTION (12A)

HHHII

CAST: Taylor Lautner, Jason Isaacs, Sigourney Weaver, Alfred Molina, Lily Collins

PLOT: Thanks to the power of the internet, young hunk Nathan discovers that he’s not exactly who he thought he was. But if his parents really aren’t his parents, who are they? And why do some bad guys want to kill him at all costs?

GOOD POINTS: Directed by John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood), this is such a silly action thriller it offers perfect escapism and the chance to wonder what Molina, Weaver and Isaacs were thinking during the shoot. The film’s faults help to make it more entertaining than Brad Pitt’s Mr & Mrs Smith and it has more zip than Johnny Depp’s The Tourist.

BAD POINTS: Too much of the plot is completely implausible.

SHOULD I SEE IT? Abduction has had some terrible US reviews where one leading critics’ website rates it at four per cent – is young leading man Lautner getting it in the neck simply for having Twilight on his CV? Audiences, more sensibly, give it a 55 per cent approval rate.
